Background Info:
The custom presented this month is owned
by Nick Julian who is a self proclaimed "Harley Nut" and was
built to be his custom ride for Palm Desert. This month's feature
bike began as a 1987 Softail Frame that was stripped and powdercoated.
The engine is a 1996 EVO that is relatively stock at present,
but is will undergo a major rebuild to at least double the horsepower
- a turbo system is a likely possibility along with a completely
Edelbrock kit consisting of heads, carbs, cams and pistons.
The build was originally started by
Legendary Motorcycles of Hollywood and one of their associates,
Uwe Allseits, but after months of frustration and receiving
a bike that was "sort of, partially finished", Nick brought
the bike to another builder for completion. After all, a man
has to have a bike to ride and when your custom takes more than
six months to get delivered (under pressure since the riding
season was almost half over) and its full of used parts, a black
and red swirled foam seat pad without any leather or cover on
it, Nick knew that it was time to have someone who's serious
about building a custom step in and finish the job. He finally
went to a real pro in Salt Lake City who corrected the misaligned
rear fender, replaced the used stuff, had a descent seat built
and got Nick on the road on a bike he could be proud of.
The warning here is simple, know who's
building your ride and DO NOT give them a dime in advance. The
scoot finally got done and I think you'll enjoy how it looks.
Regretfully, these first photos still include the old fender
and the cheesy piece of crap the original builders called a
seat.
After completion by the second builder,
the bike has won several shows and appeared in two calendars.
What started out to be a total pain in the ass and disappointment,
finally became a bike that warrants some real attention.
